You Loop it, Then you Swoop it

I was leaving a 7-11 when a woman ran out after me. I was kneeling down to tie my shoes at the same time the woman tried to get my attention to tell me my shoe was untied. I thanked her politely and moved along.

I later ran into the same woman. She looked at me then looked at my shoes. Not pleased with my shoe tying ability she gestured for me to sit down.

“I’m ok,” I said.

Exasperated, she knelt down to double tie my shoes.

She finished one and gestured for the other.

“I’ll do it myself,” I said, a little embarrassed over having an elderly Taiwanese woman tie my shoe.

As I knelt to double knot the other shoe she said, “there, that way it won’t come untied again.”

“For sure,” I replied.

I once told Goofy, I try to replace family and friends from back home with people here. Well I think white people give old Taiwanese women a chance to replace their children and grandchildren.
